13 good reasons to stay under the cover


rain or no rain. cloudy and windy. sometimes neither. usually both.  London IS usually quite gloomy, no doubt. especially in this time of the season.

as nights get colder and colder, we tend to find more reasons to stay at home. to be fair, I don’t blame you. that is why I prepared another ‘Sunday Playlist’ with 13 (I deliberately chose this number) songs for one of ‘these days’

but first:

– put on your favorite large sweater and  soft socks

– make yourself a warm tea or any other drink

– get a good book and a box of your favorite cookies/chocolates

– find comfortable position and a spot

– take a few deep breathes

– turn on the playlist

5 ways to survive a cold

1. obvious but CRUCIAL – drink a LOT of fluids especially hot ones. my favorite ones are tea with lemon and honey OR wild berry one with raspberry syrup and lemon juice

2. eat garlic. I usually mix it with butter and herbs, and put it on roasted baguette.

3. ginger. you can eat it, you can drink it, enjoy it as you like. I usually peel it and cut it in slices. then I pour it with boiling water and leave it for a night. in the morning I drink it with lemon and raspberry syrup.

4. rest. sleep is the best medicine. this way your organism will have a chance to defend itself against bacterias and fight. so jump under the cover and warm up.

5. vitamin C. lemons, oranges, grapefruit – have it in a form of a  fresh juice, salad or eat it just like that.

crispy broccoli

bored and tired of a classical way of eating broccoli? let’s spice things up a little. here is a simple, fast and tasty idea how to prepare it.

you will need:

– broccoli (0.5kg)

– 2 cloves of garlic

– 2 table spoons of olive oil

– 2 table spoons of balsamic vinegar

– 1 table spoon of brown sugar

– pinch of salt and pepper



1. cut of the stalk and remove leaves from the broccoli

2. chop it into medium sized florets

3. prepare one zipper plastic bag for food packaging

4. place broccoli inside of it together with squeezed by the crusher garlic, balsamic vinegar, sugar, olive oil, salt and pepper

5. shake the bag till all ingredients mix together and leave it for about 2min so all the flavors will merge

6. take out broccoli from the bag and spread onto a sheet pan

7. preheat oven to 200C and roast vegetables for about 20min (turning over sides somewhere in the middle)

* you can sprinkle prepared snack with grated parmesan cheese

zucchini ribbons in 15min

as it is the beginning of the week i have checked what kind of leftovers still remain in my fridge. as you can imagine my student fridge didn’t include a lot of products. but there was some salad, zucchini and few other ingredients.

that is why i thought i should make quick and easy salad with zucchini ribbons.


you will need:

– 1 big zucchini

– salad (you can use: spinach, watercress or rocket)

– feta or goat cheese

– a bunch of roasted nuts (you can use: almonds, hazelnuts, pine nuts or walnuts)

– 2 table spoons of olive oil

– balsamic glaze (decoration)

– salt/pepper


cut zucchini with a vegetable peeler into lengthwise strips. coat them with a bit of oil and salt. grill them in oven for about 10min (till they will become a bit ‘brownish’). at the same time place nuts on a tray and roast them for about 5-7min. during that time place salad and selected cheese on the plate. then add cooled zucchini ribbons. sprinkle everything with crushed roasted nuts. you can also add some salt and pepper. decorate with balsamic glaze. enjoy!

sunny sunday

today there is not much to say. its freezing outside but hey, there is sun and NO rain! and let me tell you, this a BIG deal for all Londoners!

that is why just appreciate the weather and go out…or simply stay at home and relax. its your last day before busy week. no rush, just take a deep breath and enjoy the soundtrack i have created especially for such days as this one.

grain to grain in 20

another quick and easy recipe in 20 minutes. here it is. simple as that.

things you need to grab:

– 120g of rice/couscous/millet groats/ barley

-1  large zucchini

– 1 eggplant

– 1 red paprika

– 1/4 onion (chopped)

– 1 clove of garlic (chopped)

– 1 chili paprika (chopped)

– tomato sauce

– mozzarella

– herbs

– salt/pepper

cook couscous/rice. during that time fry onion, garlic and chili on the pan. add chopped vegetables  and stir everything together. leave it on low heat for about 5-7min. mix prepared couscous/rice with tomato sauce and season it with favorite herbs (you can use basil, chili, rosemary). then add cooked vegetables and stir it all together. leave on a low heat for few minutes till all flavors will unite together.

ready meal sprinkle with chopped mozzarella and mix it all together so the cheese will melt and become ‘chewy’

WAQFF – what a quick, fast, fulfilling snack

a day of a constant feeling of hunger? pulling an all-nighter? a bad day that must be fixed by food? simple craving?

here are 5 best snacks you can have:

(especially recommended for students)

1. vegetables (carrots, celery, cucumber, paprika) with houmous or other kind of dip


2.  tortilla wrap with salad, tomatoes, cheese, bacon,  ketchup and mayo (you can choose also other ingredients like cucumbers, chicken, avocado, houmous spinach or a fried egg) enjoy it either in cold or warm version


3. a fruit (grapefruit, pineapple, apple, banana)


4. yogurt with muesli/granola and fruits (strawberries/kiwi/prunes)

stuffed jalapeno for two

another challange? not a problem. here it is ‘stuffed hot jalapeno’. it is also a great snack or an idea for lunch!


– about 20 jalapeno medium-sized chili peppers

– any kind of soft cream cheese 200g

– grated cheddar cheese 100g (if you want to make more distinctive taste)

– cut into strips bacon (20)

slightly cut into half peppers. pluck the seeds out of them. then, stuffed them with the mixture of both cheeses or just one. next wrap them with bacon strips. put prepared jalapenos in the oven (200C) for about 15min. if you have ‘grill’ switch, but it on after 10min.

pumpkin treat in 30min

due to the fact its autumn time and its getting really cold it is worth to have something at home that will warm you up. here is an idea. pumpkin cream. its delicious, healthy and fulfilling. what is more, it is easy and quick to make. 30min? consider it as done.

you will need:

1 pumpkin

1 small onion (chopped into cubes)

1 table spoon of grated ginger

1 table spoon of chopped chili

2 cloves of garlic

500ml of vegetable broth

250ml of coconut milk

salt and pepper



1) mix chopped pumpkin (you can put it for about 10min in the oven – 200C)

2) heat the oil in the pot, glaze onion add ginger, chili and garlic. fry it for 1-2min, mixing it time to time

3) add mixed pumpkin and cooked broth. stir and cook the whole  mixture for 10min. add salt and pepper and leave it till its going to boil. add coconut milk and warm it all up

and its done!

decorate it with coriander leafs and pour a bit of green pesto on top. if you feel like you can add fried shrimps (made with garlic and chili). enjoy it with toasted baguette with butter or with french toasts with ham and cheese.
